PostSubject: June newsletter   Sat Jul 11, 2009 6:04 am

Note: Slightly edited, since it was Julie who sent it Smile

Here it is what you have all been waiting for, the June Newsletter!

This month’s topic was to write a fantasy story. It generated a lot of creative thinking. Norman has even written further chapters to his excellent piece. Everyone found it hard to stick to the word limit on this one. (Apart from me. I got it right! Razz)

Apologies from Alice and Tony who did not have a story this time for the meeting. Jo was unable to attend due to a holiday hope it all went well Jo.

Norman’s story entitled "The Land of The Stragglers" centers on the main character Neil who takes a hiking trip with a difference as he discovers things are not always as they appear. A wonderful thought provoking piece.

Pete brought along his children’s story for the Bee Edward award called "Doctor’s orders". It tells the tale of a young boy Dan and his beloved Grandfather who is rushed to hospital suddenly with a heart problem. As usual this was a first rate story from Pete. His fantasy story entitled "End of the Valley" was a mysterious and very atmospheric piece with some excellent descriptive sections and an ending to give you goose bumps. Fantastic!

Avril also brought along her entry for the Bee Edwards award entitled "Gnome traffic". [Julie] loved this story. Avril has created the right recipe, a mix of fantasy and humour which captures the imagination and entertains too. A brilliant piece.

My story, entitled "Crackdown at sundown" was a vivid fantasy with more than a touch of horror thrown in. Successfully creating very believable characters and surroundings, well done me. (WAHEY!)

Finally [Julie's] story, entitled "Nuru’s vision", was inspired by one of my favourite all time classic rock songs by Rainbow. Again, [Julie] did find it hard to stick to the word limit and it could maybe have done with even more words, never mind [Julie] enjoyed doing it, the story that is!

The winners this month were Pete and Julie.

There is a new short story publication out by Meadow Publications the website for this is if anyone wants to check it out.

Don’t forget about the social event of the year! Yes, our get together on Sunday 19th July at the Westexe recreation ground, we have decided to meet at the bandstand at 2pm, if it is raining we will take shelter under it and carry on in that great British way!

Next months topic is "Holiday Incident", it can be based on fact or fiction the choice is yours.

Finally some members brought up the question of whether to produce an Anthology of the groups work this year so we need to discuss the possibility further.

I think that is all my apologies if I have left anything out.
